Why Is My iPhone Dropping Calls
August 18, 2008 – 10:09 amThe first thing you need to know is yes this is a known problem and no there isn’t anything you can do to fix it. This is usually caused by you switching from a 3G network to another work. The problem seems to be with the 3G chipset that’s developed in Germany by Infineon Technologies. But fear not, Apple and AT&T have been working on a software fix for this so you won’t need to replace your phone and the world won’t see a shortage of iPhone. AT&T is doing everything they can to reassure their customers that the problem isn’t with their 3G network and that all networks are equally affected by this globally.
The good news, big carriers such as AT&T have testing equipment that can identify dropped calls and pinpoint the manufacturer of the failed part.
The bad news: If a simple software fix isn’t feasible, Apple could be forced to issue a worldwide recall. Such a step would be costly and time-consuming.
Only time will tell for sure when and how the dropped calls issues will be fixed. For now all you can do is be patient, text more and talk less. I hope our quick guide at least stops you from trying a problem with the phone that you can’t personally fix.
